I’ve been wearing these shoes for 25 years as a chef in a fast-paced restaurant, and they are by far the most comfortable work shoes I’ve ever owned. I’ve tried various brands, but I always return to these. The non-slip soles are outstanding—better than any other shoe I’ve had. They are incredibly durable and last a long time. However, there are a couple of downsides. The laces are quite poor; they tend to break within two weeks, as the inner part often separates from the outer part, making them impossible to tie. I just replace them with new laces. The biggest issue is that the soles start to come apart at the heel, causing the tread to detach. To fix this, I use Crazy Glue to reattach them whenever it happens. It’s a minor inconvenience for such comfortable and durable shoes.

I purchased a pair of these shoes in September 2023. Overall, I had no major problems with them for daily wear, and there’s enough space to accommodate different insoles. However, I did encounter an issue that others have mentioned: the sole started to separate on the right shoe about a month after I bought them. I used super glue to fix it and found myself having to reapply it periodically. While it worked to keep the sole mostly in place, there’s a small area at the back that didn’t seal completely. I noticed similar complaints in reviews for pricier shoes, which is why I decided to go with the Dr. Scholl’s Harrington style again. I can’t give these shoes a full 5-star rating, but I also feel that 3 stars is too low.

However, it’s clear these shoes are intended for indoor use. Walking through big puddles has resulted in wet socks, and the tread has mostly worn smooth. Additionally, the insides have started to tear and bunch up, making it uncomfortable to stand in them for extended periods. I understand that no shoes last forever, especially with daily wear in unsuitable conditions, but I’m deducting one star primarily due to the sizing options. My feet are slightly small for these; I really need a 6 wide to 6.5 wide. The size 7 felt tight until I broke them in, but I still often bumped into things because of the extra space beyond my toes. More size options would be welcome, but I imagine this won’t be an issue for most people with average-sized feet. If I don’t find alternatives that suit me or if another pair in my size becomes available, I’ll likely return to these in the future.

My husband works 45-50 hours a week in the produce department of a grocery store, where non-slip shoes are a requirement. As a manager, he needs to avoid athletic-looking shoes, so we had to find suitable business shoes. He wore Rockport shoes for two years until they discontinued his model, which typically lasted about six months. This meant we were used to spending around $120 a year on his work shoes.
When I discovered the shoe was discontinued, I began searching for a durable replacement. I found a pair for $54 that resembled his Rockports, but they quickly fell apart. Adding $15 inserts extended their life to nearly three months.
During this time, I kept looking for shoes, and just when I thought I was out of options, I stumbled upon Dr. Scholl’s dress shoes. I was thrilled to find out they made non-slip dress shoes! My husband had always loved Dr. Scholl’s non-slip walking shoes before he moved into management.
Confident in the brand, I ordered two pairs, especially since I found a coupon that brought the price down to $40 each. I was slightly concerned about their appearance because my husband prefers more traditional loafers and often complains that other styles look “oafy.” When the shoes arrived, he was at work. At lunchtime, I showed him the new shoes, and he immediately swapped out his old pair for the Dr. Scholl’s. He stood up and exclaimed, “Wow! These feel awesome!” He usually needs inserts for his plantar fasciitis, but he didn’t need them with these shoes and returned to work. When he got home, he said he hadn’t thought about his feet at all while wearing them, which was a fantastic sign. He even admitted he liked how they looked and found them sturdier than the Rockport loafers without the “oafy” appearance of other shoes.
That was on December 24, 2020, and I’m writing this on May 21, 2021. He’s still wearing the same pair, which show some wear from his hard work (unloading products, stocking, cleaning, etc.), but a bi-monthly cleaning and polishing keep them looking good. They haven’t broken down and have held up much better than the Rockports would have by this time.
Recently, while reviewing past orders, I noticed a $10 off coupon for the Dr. Scholl’s shoes, so I ordered another pair as a backup. I want to ensure we have them on hand in case they get discontinued. I always check the new shoes thoroughly and have him try them on before storing them away to ensure they’re perfect.
We added a pair of plantar fasciitis inserts recently to support his arch since he had a femur break in high school, which has made one foot more prone to rolling in.
Another great thing about these shoes is that they don’t stink! The previous pair and even the Rockports would develop an awful smell, but I haven’t had to spray or powder these at all.
He has worn a size 9 in regular (medium) width for over 35 years, and these shoes fit true to size.
I understand how crucial good shoes are—not only for foot health but also for back support. Investing in a solid pair of work shoes is essential, and thankfully, Dr. Scholl’s delivers with quality shoes at a reasonable price. From now on, we’ll be sticking with Dr. Scholl’s!
